Since it is a known unit, I would think $2-3k would be fair. It is beyond IRS depreciation life of 10 years IIRC.

Thanks for commments.  This is already on air, was in the rack when we built out, and landlord loaned it to us to get on air.  It's been running well, was used on another station before that, and sounds good for our repeater (not translator) station.

Any thoughts with those circumstances

SCMS has had a really good deal on GatesAir FAX-3’s for under $14k. They have BW Broadcast TX-2500v32 for less that $11.5k. Nicom is less still.

Bext and Armstrong are OK, many times out of the same cloth. I have had several power supply problems with the Bext XL-1000 and XL-300 transmitters I have. They are both almost 20 years old. Bext upgraded the power supplies in both to Meanwell brand and they have run trouble free for a few years since.

If you are purchasing for a main transmitter, I would seriously consider new. Of course, it depends on your engineering department. If you have someone to nursemaid your technical equipment, inexpensive used is OK. If you hire me or Kevin K. to keep you on the air, you don’t save money buying potentially problematic used equipment.

I have recommended, purchased, installed, and maintained dozens of transmitters over the past 25 years, from 10 watts to 35 kW. I have learned my lesson trying to save clients money and had to apologize to clients for poor choices.

Just my two cents worth on a Sunday morning,

I am discussing the purchase of a solid-state TX from another broadcaster.

We have talked about an Armstrong 2k and a Bext 2k.

Not sure which is in the rack.

Anyone willing to say what they would pay for either that is 11-years old?
