We are in the middle of our second round of getting these reports ready for ISED.  We completed a number of them last year.   We have several scenarios for our 40+ signals across the Canadian prairies.
  • For our own tower sites we have had our consulting engineer do the calculations and then we have put up the fencing/signage needed to meet compliancy.
  • In several cases we are co-located on CBC/Global towers.  They are sharing their reports with us and we will then we submit them to ISED as part of our renewal process.
  • We are also co-located on several towers owned by telco/wireless companies.  I am checking with them to see if they have completed reports to share.  My hunch is that I will need to pay to get most of them done. It will be a bonus if it turns out to be a shared cost.
I don't have your exact scenario as one of several broadcasters on a non-broadcast facility.  You would think you should be able to come up with a shared cost arrangement as their renewals will also be dependent on the report...if not by April certainly in the next few years.

Good luck with yours. Feel free to call me if you want to discuss further.

This message is for CANADIAN CRTechs who may be affected by the ISED enforcement of Safety Code 6.

One of my transmitters is located on the rooftop of the highest building in downtown London Ontario.  I share the roof with a University Radio Station, lots and lots of VHF and UHF repeaters, VHF Paging and I believe even a SirusXM local transmitter.  And add to the mix a myriad of 2.4 and 5 gig unlicensed internet access.

I have just received a notice that my Broadcasting Certificate expires end of August 2019 and the renewal process must be completed by end of April 2019.  Up until now this has been a pretty routine procedure.

ISED (for the US guys ? this is the equivalent to the technical side of the FCC) is now enforcing Safety Code 6 compliance.

I would like to hear from any Canadian CRTechs who have been through this venture and how you were able to obtain the attestation of conformance to Safety Code 6.  If your transmitter is co-located with other transmitters how have you addressed the shared responsibility for the cost of attestation?

I went through a relatively simple Safety Code 6 routine for my transmitter in Kitchener Ontario.  We ate the entire cost but we were the only FM Broadcaster at the site.  Cost was about $ 2500.00.  I am afraid that my London site will cost significantly more.

Suggestions and ideas will be very much appreciated.

The attachment is part of my Broadcast Certificate Renewal notice
