WOW a blast from the past. In the 70's and 80's working for Harris I was Senior Designer. I actually learned how to read the punches on the Gerber drill tap, you would look for a series of punches the was a tool command then you could read the numbers of how far the head would move.

The "Spider" aid appeared in the 80's, Mentor Graphics and Pantheon both had versions If I remember correctly Intercept Technology Inc. Pantheon was first to implement the design aid.
