Where I am working, they got a Google Voice number (it is free). It is associated with a gmail account. The dispatcher keeps a browser window open in the corner of her screen and the texts come in as emails. When one comes in, she sees the activity and goes to the window and deals with the message. Every studio these days has a computer with Internet access. Should be easy to keep a browser window up.

If you're cheap, like me, set up a Raspberry Pi for $40, get a wireless keyboard and mouse from WalMart for $20, a monitor or TV with HDMI from Goodwill for $7, and have a dedicated computer for the purpose.

Since the text messages go through gmail, you only need a browser and you can have it open on multiple computers at once.
