Not so embarrassing, but scary!

I found something similar many moons ago, but it was 25 pair telephone wire! One pair was carrying switched 120VAC from the studio to the transmitter, as part of a control circuit! Very soon after that discovery, I installed a 12v relay in that transmitter, and used 12v for that circuit.

Another HORROR was to discover some studio gear was wired up with OLD LAMP CORD, which when I moved it, the insulation CRUMBLED! :o No sparks, thank the LORD! But that got replaced THAT DAY with Romex!

Both were the fault of the previous owner of the facility.

Thankfully, nobody was harmed, and no airtime was lost in those discoveries! ;)

When I first started working here, I discovered that an ‘engineer’ here had used Belden 8451 for a 120v application.  His comment was, “well, the wire says it has a 400v breakdown voltage” which was more than 120v rms.  Oh boy.
