Thread-topic: [CRTech] Pager? Wow ...

Strange, my wife keeps complaining about a beeping noise coming from my head.

Yikes!  I didn't see that one coming!  Wow.

As we were moving into our new house last year, my wife complained of hearing a periodic beeping noise. By the time I got there it was gone. On Monday, her friend was helping her in the kitchen and heard it also. Listening closely, she said "Sharon, it's coming from you!" She called her doctor to explain the situation. The doctor told her to come to the office immediately. A quick check discovered it was the low battery alarm on her pacemaker/defibrillator. They turned off the alarm and she had a new device installed on Friday.

Pager? What pager?

OK. I’ll go back even before that, although it was truly when I was a child.

My family was visiting my grandparents and we, of course, went to church. Somewhere during the service I saw a number light up in front behind the grill cloth for the organ. I asked my dad what it was for. He told me that doctors who were on call at the nearby hospital would give the hospital the phone number of the church. When a call came in for a certain doctor, an usher would light up that doctor’s number so he knew he had a call.

High tech at the time. :-)

Brings back memories of the first station where I worked … I had my hands inside the console working with the lid up on our Autogram while the station was on-air, and my pager set to “stun" mode buzzed suddenly from an incoming page.

Pager? Wow — you must be — OLD!  <ducking>
