Sounds like what you need is a music managing program. PowerGold, MusicMaster; Selector if your budget is large. They are all designed to spit out a playlist from a database of music using rules you set up. There used to be one called Natural Music that was pretty good, I'm told, and inexpensive as these things go.
Normally the output is merged with a traffic log to make an automation playlist. You may or may not need the merging capability.

Subject: [CRTech] playlist generator
I have a 2 hr syndicated show, and I now have a rotation of over 1200 songs. With two hours per week, it's going to be a while for all the songs to get played.
Back in the old days we used cue cards, but now I'd like to have a playlist for the next 100 shows based on 3 to 5 categories and the typical rules about not playing too many songs by the same artist in a single show.
I also have info on each song like beats per minute and intensity, and I'd like to factor those kind of rules into it as well.
I don't need production software, although that may be the only way to find a playlist generator. Windows based please. Updatable database in a non proprietary format.
