I have a similar feeling... it's also possible that those "24 volt" wall warts are putting out a fair bit MORE than 24v! I suspect that those modules would work perfectly on 18v... and probably "last forever".

Dollars-to-donuts, they are using 25v rated caps inside... and running them at (or beyond!) that limit. Big no-no.

Chinese junk is cheap for a reason.  My guess is it’s probably just bad caps, though.  Simple enough to swap them out if you’re handy with a soldering iron, plus you can install better ones than they came with.

Late last year we did a studio make-over and I installed 5 Whirlwind HAUC Headphone Amps.

These are little boxes that mount under the counter. I like that they have both 1/4 and 1/8 jacks and I can route different signals to different people.

When I started having some failures, I bought two as spares. Finally last week I sent three in for service. This morning I got a call that two more are bad. In my opinion this is an unbelievable failure rate.

So I have two questions:

  1. Do you have recommendations for a similar product?
  2. Do you have experience with these or similar Whirlwind product?
