At WCSG, we use the Tieline system. We started out with the rack mounted unit at the studio, and the portable device/mixer which would hold a data module. Once Tieline came out with their $ 100/yr for ten licenses, we have switched to using two Ipads for remotes. One has the Tieline ap on it and uses the Alesis IO docking station. This docking station is really kinda cool. The other Ipad is used for generic web browsing. At the moment, when we do remote, we have a board oerator back at the studio. We are going to reconfigure equipment so we can field record breaks into the AvAir system.  We have the other licenses on some staff memebrs Iphones. I'm really impressed with the quality of the Iphone microphine(s). Not 100% studio quality, but very airable.

25-30 years ago I worked for a commercial station that did hundreds of Marti remotes a year. We had a news car, a van, and an RV with the Wilburt mast, each had a mobile repeater in it. Three remote receive sites, two 2 way repeaters, and it took me about 15-20 hours a week to maintain it it all. Granted, that company billed almost a million dollars a year on the equipment, but it was a maintenance headache. Today? We have the announcers walk out the door with a pair of ipads. Things change.
