John,

The local studio requirement has been waived for non-commercial stations for years.

The system has been well developed by Christian broadcasters and Public Radio groups from coast to coast.

The main idea is to provide content delivery and automation in a single box. Typically a DVB satellite receiver with “store and forward” technology.

At many stations today the studio is simply a building with a satellite downlink and a local automation system.

This simply reduces the cost of a building or facility that is superfluous.

You can direct local content to a satellite receiver (located at the transmitter site) that has audio or video file storage and the ability to switch between network and local content.

The EAS box is typically located between the satellite receiver and the transmitter.

Thanks,

Mark Johnson

I’m just curious as to how other broadcasters feel the FCC’s recent abolishment of the local studio requirement will or could affect your local operation? Also, how does EAS fit into this ruling.  Where would the EAS box be located if there is no local studio?
