Thread-topic: [CRTech] Audio Monitoring?

Thanks for the suggestions, all. Ben, the 610 was also recommended to me by another engineer, so you’ve got some fans 😊

Hi Dylan,

At the risk of overstepping bounds, it sounds like you need a Model 610 Internet Radio Monitor.

We came out with this hardware solution because folks like yourself were wanting to monitor both their stream being up, as well as the presence of audio on their stream.  In the early days, engineers would run WinAmp with a silence sense program, or an outboard silence sense box connected to some old PC’s sound card stuck in a corner somewhere.

When Windows updated, or someone tripped over the ‘orange cord’ that the PC was plugged into, the stream would never be required and the whole kludge would go down.

What the Model 610 does is monitors the presence of your stream 24/7/365, as well as audio being present on your stream.  If for any reason you lose one or both, the Model 610 will log that incident with a time stamp, and can send you an email or text message to let you know there is an issue.  It can also send you a daily, weekly, monthly report of any issues it detected.

Now for price, it is as much as you’d pay for a PC, but it’s compact, rack mountable (1/2 rack space), hardware dedicated and it never updates in the middle of the night and reboots!  A good value…

A free solution for audio monitoring of streaming audio: see http://pira.cz/eng/silence.htm

Doesn’t monitor if the stream itself stops.  We use a streaming provider which sends us emails if a stream is down or no data is received for a pre-determined interval.

First it sounds like you need a ups.  Even if you get a generator you want a ups. Ot will keep rhibgs running while the generator spins up. Then you need a silence sensor.  The broadcast tools silence sentinel web is good and will email you if your audio goes silent.

Our streaming provider will email me if we lose our stream or it goes silent. Maybe you can see if christiannetcast can do that too. We use securenetsystems (highly recomended).

Otherwise you could use something like an inovonics 610 or the broadcast tools streaming sentinel to notify you of stream loss.

With the two sensors tou can know if your audio quit and rhTs why you have no stream or if the audio is still playing but your stream is down. Of course tou need some analog spot to monitor the audio so if it goes straight to the stream you may need to figure out where to get analog audio.

Hey all,

Time for me to consult wiser heads.

We’re running a purely Internet radio station (Keys for Kids Radio) out of our office building, and over the weekend we lost power, which killed the station for a few hours.

It also showed me that we don’t have adequate monitoring in place to alert us if the station’s gone kaput and stopped sending audio to our Christian Netcast server or lost connection to the server.

So my question is, (if you’re streaming audio online), what are you doing at your stations to monitor both the data connection of your streaming computer to your “broadcast” server and to be sure it’s actually sending audio as well?

We’re working on a fundraising plan that will allow us to install a generator. Fingers crossed! (and knees bowed in prayer!!!)
