You only keep the parts of the actual public file that do not immediately go online.  Most notably, the old political file stuff. 

With that said, I wouldn't just dump it in the garbage since there may be some documents there of historical interest AND as a backup.  I would remove it from public view but keep it for a while anyway.

The old political file will age completely out when everything in it is 2 years old.

Don't confuse other of the required documents with the PIF.  IE, your technical measurements (AM NRSC, FM mask, required DA MP measurements, etc) are often placed in the local public file for safe keeping but are not part of it and are not uploaded. 

I am not an attorney, didn't play one on TV and didn't stay at a Holiday Inn last night, so this advice is worth exactly what you paid for it...
