Mike,

I think most of us who have been around broadcasting for awhile certainly remember the term "donut," but yeah, I haven't heard it used in a long time.  What you're describing might be called one of the following:

Sting
Tag
Tail

We use the FirstCom music library and they tend to list the clip options in terms of length but then also say "Main Mix" or "Underscore" or "Alternative Mix" or "Stem" (with further descriptors to follow).  And as was mentioned earlier in this thread, if you need one of those "things," you can make it yourself with digital editing in no time at all.  That said, when looking at some of FirstCom's individual production elements, they do have a number of guitar "stings", for example.  So I think that may come closest to what you're looking for.

Trying to think of the production term for a bed that is not a donut but just has singing at the beginning or end of the bed.  IIRC, it’s not intuitive.

I looked at several advertising/production glossaries and none of them listed donut.  Is that not a thing anymore? J
