Hello, Scott.

If the signal is on the primary station, then it's legal for it to be on the translator that retransmits the primary station.

Keep in mind the FCC's legal definition of a translator is to receive, convert the RF frequency, amplify then retransmit the primary station's signal. This was usually done at the IF stage or at composite FM level. Therefore, if you really did translate the primary signal's frequency, you would have to filter the subcarriers to prevent them from being retransmitted. So, the FCC has never prohibited carrying the entire

So, even if you are using the technique of fully demodulating the primary station then re-modulating the programming into an exciter, there are no limits placed upon reproducing all content of the original primary station in the same manner as originated by the primary station.

For practical reasons, the FCC also does not prohibit changing the Alternate Frequency list used by RDBS on a translator. The rules are silent and the FCC personnel also do not object.

I know this question has been asked before, but I was wondering if the answer has changed- is it legal to do RDS on a satellator, assuming the donor signal is running it?  Used to be the answer was no, but was wondering if thatís been changed to a yes.
