This is the sun outage calculator I found easiest and most helpful. I just enter my lat/long in decimal. We are now learning anew how to cover the outages on the new AMC18 satellite at 105 degrees. We can sure catch a lot of solar energy in that larger dish :-). Yesterday's outage was apx 5 minutes. Our XDS drops off/comes back at about 3.0 Eb/No (normally we run about 11/12).

I just accidentally deleted all my cookies, so seeing this tonight was timely.  I already had a chart printed out but thought I’d better do this again now so I’ll have it next time.

What you have to do is zoom WAY WAY in.  I zoomed into a size that was about 10 miles by 10 miles (you can zoom in more if you like – I think the bottom of the glove is where is goes).  I double clicked my location – it gave me something that was about 3 miles too far south.  So I closed the box and double clicked 3 miles further north.  Bingo!  The address was about 2 blocks off.  Close enough!

I like this calculator mainly because I always am able to make it work!  (Oh yeah, I had to put in my dish parameters again because of the cookie exodus.)

I just zoomed-in to Middletown, CT and clicked it. It said I was pointing to Surf City, NJ.

REALLY?? :P

NEXT! ;)

It remembers where you are after the first time (if you allow the cookie).

I think we are getting in it..

Sun outages occur every year, in Fall and Spring, and last approximately about a week each time. This Fall, sun outages are expected late September to early October, 2017.

Hey Guys:

Are we in the solar outage season?  What website do you use to get the outage information (as it relates to satellite reception)?

Thanks!

Steve
