Thread-topic: [CRTech] win10 goodbye control panel

All you have to do to search in Win10, is click the "start" button (windows logo in bottom left corner of screen) and start typing.  It will just search for you.

I also utilize Classic Shell on all shared studio PC's that I maintain.  Much better learning curve for when I'm replacing a Win7 PC.  Then the Control Panel is right where I want it.

As much as Win 10 annoys me, it is the reality which most of us will need to deal with in the coming years.

Also, if your organization has any sort of Volume Licensing Agreement, or is authorized to use the Enterprise versions of Win10, you will want to check out the "LTSB" version of Windows 10 Enterprise… LTSB stands for "Long-Term Servicing Branch".  It is a version of Win10 WITHOUT all the superficial crap – No Edge browser, no Cortana, no xBox, no extra "apps"…  Yes it does still have all the MS telemetry crap, but it's minimal, and there are no forced major upgrades.  Only security updates.  If you WANT to take a major upgrade (i.e. the creators update), you can manually upgrade to the newest LTSB version once its released, but it won't automatically push it on you.  Unfortunately I mentioned you must be an Enterprise customer.  LTSB is not available via any retail channel at all, and is not available in the Home or Pro versions of Win10… Only the Enterprise version.  That being said, it's what's getting installed on all my new studio and transmitter site PC's.

and where is "the search box"? that used to be part of the 'main' start menu? ah. in the right-click start menu. always more hidden, more secrets, more time wasted. at least they let me pin it to the start menu (or task bar) for next time.

Control Panel is still there, type that into the search box and you find it.

the new 'creators version' of win10 installed itself on my computer yesterday. a Cisco tunneling app i've been using forever started crashing the OS - the new, friendlier, but still.... the blue screen of death.

today's surprise: no control panel. used to be in the right-click on start icon. even in win10 you wound up using it a lot, either directly or thru their 'settings' that often resorted to it to actually get things done. so now 'settings' supposedly does everything. we'll see. it's prettier of course, but everything's different. sigh.
