I got Cool Edit to run under WINE on Linux Mint. it took a bit of fidgeting with things, and a number of re-installs, but it finally came together and worked! You have to set WINE to run the installer in WIN98 compatible mode, and make sure that the software also runs in WIN98 compatible mode. You can probably use XP compatible mode for Audition, though.

I also had a strange issue where some of the "plug-ins" for Cool Edit didn't land in the right folder, but once I figured that out, and dragged 'em where they belonged, it worked. :) I haven't messed with it in a couple months, but it was VERY satisfying to see my beloved Cool Edit WORKING in Linux! :D

That's a HUGE LEAP for me, to one day (soon, probably) abandon Windows forever, and dive fully into Linux and stay there.

While WIN7 is TOLERABLE, WIN10 absolutely is NOT... so it ain't happening.

I wish we could run Audition on Linux. Anyone had success with that? Our automation (Rivendell) is on CentOS so I keep two computers up for the production rooms. We use Audacity for the quick basic edits of single/stereo tracts and Audition 3.0 for multi-track production.
