I like saving money too. I still use Audacity on computers where I only need to do occasional editing, like at my desk. I just wouldn't recommend it for full-time use by part-time staff in a professional radio environment. If it works for you, fantastic!

We purchased the upgrade from Cool Edit Pro to Audition 1.0 and have never felt the need to upgrade. I would buy an old serial number version before I paid for a subscription.

I recommend you forget Audacity. The trouble with me is that I like to save money and would rather put up with a few extra mouse clicks rather than sending Adobe $19.99 every month for the privilege of using Audition.

Dave, that's what you have to do. It's not such a big deal if you're recording new, editing your recording and then saving. Even if you're assembling a multi-track. And Sherrod, it's not just about not wanting to know a second way to do it. It's about workflow, time, and hassle.

But from a radio perspective...let's say I have a few files every day that I need to open, then edit, then re-save. Let's say we might use the same file names every day. (Don't know anyone who does that, of

With either program, I open the file and do my edits. Both work great for this. Now, I need to save the finished product and close it so it's ready for air.

Audition: Click the Save Icon, choose Close from the file menu. Done.

Audacity: Choose Export from the file menu, click Save on the file format screen, click Yes when it warns you there is an existing file with the same name (duh), get to the screen to edit metadata tags, click OK, choose Close under the file menu, click No when it warns that you haven't saved the project.

That's 3 mouse clicks for Audition, and 8 for Audacity. Just to save and close an existing file that I opened to edit. Then, if I'm using Audacity I also end up with an extra file for every time you open and save a file: test-old.wav, test-old1.wav, test-old2.wav, test-old3.wav and so on. Unless my hard drive has infinite storage space, and I'm not worried about scrolling through (eventually) dozens of files with similar names, I need to go back and delete all those old files that Audacity saved automatically when all I wanted to do was edit a file and re-save it as the same file.

This would be equivalent to having an open source word processor, like LibreOffice require you to "export" a document you opened to work on, then save your previous version. Every time you saved it. Isn't it just easier to hit the Save Icon or hit Ctrl+S?

would it work to just 'bite the bullet' and record in audacity's
native format, then export the finished product as wav instead of
trying to use wav for every step of the process?
