Why can't they allow users a *CHOICE*? In "options" have a checkbox, "Allow direct save-to-WAV" that is unchecked by default. This way, if we WANT it, we can check it after installing Audacity.

Choice is GOOD...  ain't it? ;)

Yes.  And the real bummer?  It's on PURPOSE!  The Audacity "prime directive," if you will, is to force "nondestructive editing."  Which means for all of us hands who cut our teeth way back on Cool Edit Caveman, it's a never-ending frustration.

This is my absolute #1 peeve with Audacity. You described it perfectly. It's like being nibbled to death by a duck. ;)

The biggest issue I have with it and why I would not use it at work is that while you can directly open a WAV file and edit it, you can't simply save it and close when you're done.

It doesn't seem like such a big deal, but when the vast majority of the work you do is recording and editing and saving simple WAV files, the extra steps add up to a lot of wasted time and hassle.
