Lyle- is the tower you used the self supporter north of town or the guyed stick down by the water?

It was/is the 250' guyed at the AM site at 15th and Utah. WA9MCC came up from Green Bay and did a couple of 160 meter contests from that tower and got some good numbers.

Not sure which self-supporting one you mean, but if it's the one among the other taller guyed towers on the Niagra Escarpment, that one is 175', and, though it is an old AM tower we got somewhere, has no radials because it was only used for the original WDOR-FM Class A on 95.9 at about 100' AGL horizontal only and the W9AIQ club repeater on 2 meters at the top. I lived in Sturgeon Bay 11 years, having started at WDOR 910 "The Voice of Cherryland" in 1962 when it was the only radio station in town. Before I left in 1973 I built the current WDOR-FM 93.9 when we put up the first 500' tower there. And we put the repeater on the top of that one.

What's your connection to Sturgeon Bay that you know about the towers?

One evening in the winter of 1962-63 I fired up my ARC-5 with a pair of 1625's as a balanced modulater to create double sideband on 75 meters and said "This is K9DKW speaking coast to coast". A voice answered from southern Georgia, saying "With that signal, y'all are talkin' round the world! What kinda power or antenna y'all runnin' up there?" At which point I had to admit that it was a full wave vertical (250') with 120 radials. I'd hooked up to my rig after shutting down WDOR-AM 910 in Sturgeon Bay, WI at sunset a couple hours earlier. Used my Johnson Viking Matchbox out at the dog house at the end of our long RG-17/U feedline.
