And are still selling for that and more.  I have 3 or 4 IC-706's (various suffix) scattered around and keep an eye out for good deals on more. I am in the process of installing one in my service truck right now.

Sorry, that whole post was a digression.

I bought an IC-706MKIIG for $600 a few years ago. 160-2 meters (100 watts) + 3/4 meters as a bonus (40 watt limit).  The only new radio I bought lately, and that was in 2012, is an IC-V80 2-meter handheld so I am largely ignorant of what is out there for HF these days.  Knew about the -706 when it first came out and was just waiting for one to fall into my price range.
