Subject: [CRTech] Time to upgrade
I suppose 17 years is enough to get out of one of our automation computers. The boot drive one of our Dell 2450 computer died over the weekend.
So while this isn't truly mission critical, I'm going to use it as a test platform to build and probably end up sliding it into the main on air computer which is also 17 years old and running W2K.
We use BSI Simian.
We'll need 3 stereo in / 1 stereo out on the sound card. With that I'm presuming that ASI is the obvious choice. Or is it?
Also, gotta be Windows 7 or 10. It just has to so please don't bring up other OS. But, I'm concerned about Windows' propensity to update and reboot at in opportune times. Does anyone know how to control this irritating habit?
Obviously hard drives are going to be a huge step forward from the current SCSI storage. I'm leaning towards toward Samsung SSD for OS, and WD BLACK for storage. Recently, I've been seeing PCI-e SSD that are even faster than SATA SSD. Anyone know about the PCI-e drives?
What are issues you think about when upgrading?
