I like Cinnamon, too... but it doesn't like the computer I'm running it on. It keeps reporting that Cinnamon crashed, and is running in "fallback" mode. I tried a few "fixes", all to no avail. The Login Manager only showed Cinnamon. So... Hmmm... :/

As it turns out, I only had *PART* of Mate installed. I found the missing part, and installed it! NOW I have the option to select it in the "Preferences" menu in the Login Manager.... and...

IT WORKS! :) it's kinda similar to Cinnamon, with a few differences that I think I can easily adapt to... since I wasn't completely immersed in the broken Cinnamon, yet, anyway! :)

The eventual goal is to migrate the Internet-facing systems that we can, to Linux, so that we can finally be rid of Big Brother Microsoft, Viruses, forced updates, etc. Plus... IT'S ALL FREE!!! :D

Only thing I'm seeing is that setting it up & getting it working is definitely NOT for "newbies"! Propeller beanies are required. ;) This process is helping me get mine all polished up and spinning!

Someone else asked how I got Cool Edit (Pro 1.2) working... I installed WINE and had to go through a number of permutations and gyrations to get the propeller spinning on THAT one, too! ;) Running the installer in WIN98 compatible mode, then making the app run in that same mode, finally got it to work. It "only" took about 6 tries. ;)

Hi Willie,

Your login manager should give you the available OS options in a list when you start the machine.  I have several OS on my Cinnamon Mint 17.3 machines and the Linux Distros as well as Windows (on the dual boot machines) are all listed as available at startup. There may be a way, but I have not seen a way to switch realtime.  Really love the Mint Cinnamon BTW!
