Yeah, me neither... so I went into BIOS and tried removing the DVD drive from the boot sequence, again (there is no disc in it) and that solved the "hanging" issue. Hmmm... Perhaps that was why it wasn't in the boot sequence to begin with! (I last tinkered with THAT a few years ago, when this PC was just bought, and obviously forgot.)

Seems like it's normal, now... it probably needs a BIOS update to correct that, but since I don't use boot disks that often, I'll leave it be. It must be a bug in BIOS that doesn't like an empty CD/DVD drive at boot time. :P

It's a Lenovo machine, and my experience has been that they are FUSSY things with their special partitioned boot partition and whatnot. (Thankfully, the AOMEI Backupper works perfectly on them!)

Thus, I suspect that the Linux test actually DIDN'T foul the HD after all. (WHEW!) :)
