That’s odd, I didn’t think any of the Live DVD/CD/USB images touched the hard drive unless you started up the installer or used the file manager to poke around on the HD any? I had the opposite problem here, a live Linux image that wouldn’t touch the equivalent of the hard drive in a machine I’m playing with here. It’s a DT-166 thin client that I’m trying to make a bit more useful then what the stock Windows CE OS would be.

Things to make you say, "Hmmm..."

I was testing a "Live DVD" of Linux Mint 18.1 and it appears to have trashed the HD of a WIN7 machine I use for making backups. The machine "hangs" in the startup screen "starting Windows" with the HD light steady-on.

First run-through of the built-in Windows repair process, failed.

Sigh. I've never had such a problem with a "live" disc, before! :( This distro of Linux appeared to work flawlessly from the DVD.

Thank the LORD for backups... looks like I'll be forced to restore that HD.

Oh! Lo and behold... Windows woke up, and finished booting! :)

Time to poke around a little!
