The ERI antennas are not indestructible either. A local station here in Redding had one destroyed by ice a few years ago.

As I recall the mount bent with ice buildup between the tower and the element.

No such high power antennas at the site.   Just microwave, communications, and low power translators.    Maybe a high power antenna would last better, but we’re running less than 30 watts.

Anyone at that site using ESI rototillers? They have deicers and radomes available for their antennas?

We’re using the Nicom BKG77 medium power broadband circular antenna at a site where the antenna lasted less than two years.   First the mount bent, then an element was sheared off by heavy ice and wind.   Not falling ice, there is nothing above this antenna.

I’m not saying it isn’t a durable antenna, it’s just that this one site is especially brutal.  Very heavy icing and winds well over 100 mph are typical.   Many of the other antennas at the site were also damaged this past winter.

Is there a more durable antenna we could replace it with?
