It becomes unstable - that is, the -179 deg bounces all over the place and of course, being on the line between -179 and +179 makes it look really bad. The logs record +101, 81 deg, then -179, then +179 deg , and the power ratio of 46.5% went down to 30% but bounced around too.

What's strange is that I don't know exactly when the fog formed but probably 4-5 AM, it affected the tower at 6 AM - perhaps when thickest, and by 6:20ish it returned to normal. At 6:45 we switch to day pattern which does not use tower 3 and all is normal.

I don't have solder connections except for grounding copper strips. All else are screw terminals. I will likely shut it all off so I can check all of it. I spray cleaned and checked what I could without danger.

Yep.  I'm with Lou.  Check your connections and especially soldered joints.

Tom,

When you notice this are you out of compliance (5% ratio / 3 degrees phase)? Do the parameters come back to normal after the fog lifts? Is only tower 3 affected?  My experience has been is the operating parameters are actually changing on one tower i has an effect on the other towers' parameters too. May have an issue with your sample system.

Any AM guys out there? We have an AM 4 tower directional array. For the first time in my 4 years here, two foggy mornings in a row affected adversely tower 3, the negative tower in the night pattern, but strangely, it had no affect on the tuning parameters of the others that I would normally see if it was really out of tune.

I cleaned up all vegetation around the towers just in case, checked and cleaned the relays, checked other connections but could not see anything obvious. It's running perfect otherwise and I am not sure how to reproduce the problem.

Any ideas?
