Just a follow-up.  The remotely located T8 electronic ballast failed to light the T8 tubes in half the cases.   Half the new T8 just flickered dimly so appears they don’t like the longer distance from ballast to tubes.    The old T12 ballast had been remotely located to reduce hum.   Hyperikon LED tubes lit right up nicely after patching out the ballasts.

I have been replacing all fluorescent with LED from Hyperikon.  I got a great volume discount, everything is direct wired.  SILENT.  No failures at all so far

Somebody mentioned LED retrofits I think.

So far the LED tubes I've used are dead quiet.

I've only done retrofits of smaller tubes, not the four footers.

I did visit a large group facility last year that had done a retrofit of their facility with all new LED troffers and it was really wonderful. Lovely, even light and zero noise. They were dimmable and I was very impressed.

The diffusers didn't require the fresnel sections that basically give you a dark area the first eight inches or so from the ceiling down the walls. Another great feature of those purpose designed LED fixtures.

One of my stations is getting LED lighting in a new studio facility we're building in the next two months. I can report back later about that if anybody's interested. I'm expecting it to be great, what with the electrical and acoustic noise reduction and all.

This building used to be really noisy with the old magnetic ballasts.   Getting hum out of the mic in one studio was fruitless.  Etc etc...
