Thread-topic: [CRTech] FTP and 44.1

Who decided that 44.1 was a “consumer” standard and 48 was “professional”? The difference in audio quality would be very slight at best.

There are a handful of program providers that require logging into "strange" WEBsites, navigating through menus, etc, to get to their files. Then they have to be selected and downloaded. None of our automatic systems can process that.

Time to brush up on your Linux skills, Willie. Using the powerful wget command and a little parsing, you can automate the downloading of pretty much anything from any website.

We are thankful that a MAJORITY of program providers DO use 44.1 as a standard... but there are always those "outliers" that just have to do things differently. ;)

Do keep in mind that 44.1k is a CONSUMER standard. The 48k rate is a PROFESSIONAL standard. Kind of like mp3 files. They are fine for archives and consumer mp3 players, etc. but most professional broadcasters shy away from them for on-air use.
