I haven't done as many as Mark Johnson but I've done a handful so far, and agree with his recommendations.

Yesterday I did a two-year-old DH Products 4.2 meter dish with a Norsat LNB. Amazing results compared with the other dishes I've done so far. EB of 12.0 on the Westwood One receiver, and 13.5->15 on the others. Except for the little Westport receiver used for STORQ store-and-forward formats on Westwood One. That one only got me 10.5 but I don't remember seeing figures any higher than that on other ones I have now on AMC-8 so it's probably the receiver.

At the moment I've got one dish that had to swing back because the LNB was just too bad. I've got a Harris Delta Gain dish of about ten feet that required offsetting the carrier in the Westwood One receiver just to make it lock. The other newer dish I have done, a 3.7 meter Comtech, worked fine with a recently purchased phase stable DawnSat LNB.

So the "give it a shot" recommendation is probably worthwhile advice. If you have a Westwood receiver you will want to use that as your gold standard for whether the system is good enough. If you're getting anything below EB of 10 you will want to consider your options even though it's working at the moment. That's where I'm at with the site that's got the Harris dish. EB is 9.2 or so and I just don't think that's good enough.

One man's limited experience.

I know the focus of this group has been 89 degrees west, but some of us are starting to re-point our "other" dishes from AMC-8 to AMC-18.
