i'm afraid we'll run into trouble with the slightest difference in startup latency, clock speeds, etc trying to keep those two signals (channels) in phase. maybe it would all stay close enough. depends a lot on what's driving the 'smarts' and what the smarts are. plus the work of separating the stereo file into L and R channels (dual mono) and saving each to the cards, and keeping everything straight.

i'd head for a BeagleBone or RaspberryPi. upload the audio thru the internet and play both channels out of the DACs like they're 'supposed' to be played. should be able to do it with very little programming. ie copy the audio file to the DAC 'device' file. use the cron (timer) built into the linux OS they come with. or plenty of IO pins, in and out, for coordinating with other systems. easier than peas.

lol. very good friday (or april 1) material, Sherrod.
Huh? I'm confused now -- I was being serious!

they lost me at why a stn ID has to be stereo. do they pan it while he's speaking? or fancy music for those few seconds?
I got a bit puzzled too. After all, I've never heard Morse Code in stereo. Mono works just fine, especially for legal IDs.
