Hello FET!  It’s been a while.

 

In reference to using Sage and AES:

At our site, we have several broadcasts relying on Sage so we are utilizing both the analog and AES I/O’s of Sage simultaneously without a problem.

I’m stating this just to let folks know it can be done.

I had similar problems in an AES air chain, ended up being the Sage EAS AES pass-through. Bypassed it and the problems quit.

Random thoughts:

 

*Cable length?  Could be too long.

*Check all connections for connectivity.

*Balanced AES is typically 5v p-p but you need a scope to see that.  Hand-held meters may not have high enough bandwidth.

*Impedance? 110 ohm runs.

*Sync?  I assume you are coming from an xNode?  When intermittent, is the ‘sync’ indicator on the xNode stable?

*Master/Slave sync.  Maybe make sure your Axia sync system is configured ‘normal’.

*Axia puts out 48KHz.  Make sure your destination is sync’d to the ‘house clock’ of Axia.

*Your processor most likely has SRC on its input but if the internal clock of the processor is not sync’d with Axia, the processor’s SRC buffer may have trouble keeping up and you would get holes in your audio.

I admit, I've never done much in the digital audio realm, but when I got a new processor and could link up through AES-EBU, I'd thought try it. Somewhere in the chain, however, I'm getting short dropouts, maybe 1/2 to 1 sec. They are very sporadic and unpredictable, but may happen only three times a day up to several times an hour. I had to make a cat 5 to xlr adapter to get from the Axia out to the Sage Endec in. When it works, it sounds fine.  Any thoughts?
