I had 3 Barix 500's sitting on a shelf that are serving very nicely as a backup STL for my two FMs.  They are connected through 4G modems and work just fine for this application.  The main problems I run into are the modem hangs up and no longer pemits the stream.  So I have an output closure hooked up the remote control and lets me know if it gets disconnected for whatever reason.

I actually use Barix for STL's and I just set them to pick up my regular station AAC+ stream. At 48k, they sound acceptable to broadcast and I don't have to push a signal to them. If I had the money, I'd use Tielines everywhere, but $350 for one extremer versus $3000 for a pair of Bridge-IT's makes the Barix boxes a good choice. We have silence sensors on them that reboot them if they go offline for more than 90 secs.

What Bill said. Exactly.

We're in the middle of looking at a backup IP path, and considering codec options. We have a stack of Barix boxes lying around from old projects, but I'm still hesitant to use them...

The Barix work, but we found the extra expense of the Comrex BRIC-Link gives better performance than the low cost Barix.   The BRIC-Links have better buffering and pass audio more cleanly during times of poor internet connection or congestion.   The Barix audio has more tendency to break up during poor connections.

Also take a look at Comrex BRIC-Link. We have found them to be very good. NO problems for years (so far).

I'm looking to put together a backup STL system for use over an IP / Internet connection.  For those of you with experience with Barix, are these the two pieces I would need;   Barix Instreamer and a Barix Exstremer 100.

Thanks,
